She told me that he had died from a blow on the head with a polo mallet during the game, I don't know if that truly is what happened. I also heard the story that Walt Disney's horse had fallen on Gordon. Following the accident and Gordon's death, Disney felt badly for her, and perhaps felt some guilt, and gave her a job at his studio in the accounting department.

You have to admit, dying on Halloween night does sound more dramatic! Thank you for the outstanding post honoring Gordon Westcott.J.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11477610921165070707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3428647353853444922.post-19496522025947874482016-02-13T03:43:36.945-05:002016-02-13T03:43:36.945-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.J.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11477610921165070707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3428647353853444922.post-74991583615796368932014-06-13T13:35:47.698-04:002014-06-13T13:35:47.698-04:00I agree, should have kept his birth name.

Another interesting a...Thanks for coming by, Cliff! Another interesting aspect of Westcott's death are the internet reports that the horse who hit Westcott was ridden by Walt Disney himself. I don't think that was the case -- a couple of other sources say, however, that Westcott's death gave pause to hardcore polo players like Disney and Spencer Tracy and made them consider ending the hobby.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05128111077794801640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3428647353853444922.post-54612961544310424752014-05-21T16:14:31.490-04:002014-05-21T16:14:31.490-04:00I love "The World Changes," but I'm ...I love "The World Changes," but I'm partial to that sort of multi-generational saga. I always think of her as 'the zombie' Mary Astor in that scene, but I think I'll go with your "Scary Mary" from now on! Great scene! By the way, step one of the Paul Muni aging process, young Muni with the light hair, reminds me of a mid-80s Bruce Willis. "Ice boxes on wheels!"

On Westcott, I think most current sources have the date of death wrong. I haven't checked the SS Death Index, but the newspaper reports I've seen (all AP) have been dated October 31 and refer to his having died "last night."

Enjoyed the post, so glad someone else has seen the Muni movie!Cliff Alipertihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07791559437928473638noreply@blogger.com
